Stop Dumping on Yarker

About Us

Without prior notification or consultation Stone Mills Township has dumped a Waste Transfer Station on our quaint quiet rural village. This situation is unacceptable and we are committed to challenging it.

Ontario’s Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has not taken action to require the operator to prevent off-site impacts. Our belief is that these impacts including excessive noise, dust, rodents, run-off have
prevented neighbours from enjoying their property.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to restore the peaceful and healthy
neighbourhood that existed before the waste transfer station was imposed on the
community.

Why all of the hubbub?

We believe that there were significant irregularities in the approval process, that the Ministry has failed to protect the public, and that the
operator has not complied with the regulations for waste management.

Where we are at

We have met with the Township and filed a number of Freedom of Information Requests. In spite of missing documentation, we have pieced together a timeline that makes our case that Stone Mills Township failed to follow it’s procedures and process. Our findings were presented to Council and they have decided not to take action. We are now engaged with legal council in review of the situation.

We have met with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks to report our observations of non-compliance to the transfer station certificate of
approval. We disagree with their conclusions about many issues including: noise, hours of operation, dust and fumes, rodents, required inspection of incoming loads, storm water management, and the requirement to take remedial action to correct off-site impacts.

In addition we have contacted the owner(s)/operators of the Waste Transfer Station asking for a meeting. So far they have declined.

Update

On June 26th SDOY.CA Stop Dumping on Yarker) launched at a public meeting  as a community group working to the resolve the problem of the Waste Transfer Station dumped on a tiny rural village in Stone Mills Township.

The ad hoc committee presented it’s findings to the over 50 plus Stone Mills residents attending, and there findings were well received. During questions and discussions there was over whelming support from those gathered to see the issue resolved.

The following videos are a 5 minute and 10 minute abbreviated versions of the presentation narrated by Jeff Whan.
